We do not design for genres.
A system with a strong sound of its own can impress on one recording, yet quickly reveal its limits on another.
Our story
Natural Distortion Audio develops its own audio components in Pécs, where much of the work is done by hand.
An audiophile beginning
The most remarkable thing about music is that it reaches beyond the intellect. It touches something deeper. A well built system can open a direct path to it.
A system with a strong sound of its own can impress on one recording, yet quickly reveal its limits on another.
The less a system imposes itself on a recording, the more kinds of music we can enjoy naturally, even when the recording is less than perfect.
Máthé Kálmán · 1951–2025
Creating Natural Distortion Audio’s products was more than an engineering task. It was the culmination of a lifetime. From childhood, Máthé Kálmán was fascinated by everything that records and reproduces sound.
He wanted to understand more than how it worked. He sought the 'soul of sound'. His passion became his profession, and microelectronics became central to his life. He also taught it at university.
The journey
We followed many paths that led nowhere. Some ideas looked perfect on paper but did not deliver what we hoped for in practice. We tried different solutions, circuit designs and approaches.
Each experiment brought us closer to what we were looking for: technology that makes itself less apparent, so the essence of the music reaches the listener directly.
Pécs, Hungary
Natural Distortion Audio is rooted in the cultural life of Pécs. The Music Institute of the University of Pécs and the Kodály Centre, with its exceptional acoustics, make music part of everyday life here.
This is where Natural Distortion Audio began.
ENGINEERING & DESIGN
Sound, construction and form are parts of the same idea. Engineering and design therefore work together throughout development.

Pure emotions
Our story did not begin with a passing idea. One aim has guided us: to get closer to the experience in which sounds do more than play. They fill the space and speak to you directly.
When the music begins, forget that it comes from a machine. Let the space, the rhythm, the instruments and the experience remain.

About us, briefly
We make high end audio components of our own design, from digital source to sound. Our aim is a natural musical experience without added colour.
Natural Distortion Audio is based in Pécs. The city’s cultural and musical life is an important part of our story.
For us, it means a system that does not impose itself on the recording and brings the listener closer to the music, rather than a showy sound or a long list of features.
Alongside the Analogue DSD DAC, we are developing a digital integrated amplifier and a loudspeaker as parts of one system, guided by the same approach to sound. We also plan a speaker cable based on a different approach.
